How To Force Flash an AMD Instinct GPU To Another Model Using Debian Ubuntu Mint Linux

Be careful with this and make sure you know what you're doing. In this example we took an Old AMD Instinct Mi25 GPU and flashed to WX9100, because both cards are essentially the same hardware (gfx900) but the WX9100 firmware will enable the miniDP port and also higher power and performance (Mi25 is capped at 110W vs WX9100 170W and of course makes use of the display).

Most guides on the internet for some reason have people using a physical ROM programmer, which works but is a lot more work and more finicky.

You can just use AMD's VBFlash tool like below:

./amdvbflash -f -fs -fa -fv -p 0 AMD.WX9100.16384.171219.rom

The -f -fs -fa and -fv are necessary in this case and does the following:

-f Force flashing regardless of security checkings (e.g. AsicID & BIOS file info check OR boot-up card). -fs Force flashing bypassing BIOS SSID check. -fa Force flashing bypassing already-programmed check. -fv Force flashing bypassing newer BIOS version check.

Basically if you don't do the above, you will get complainst about the ROM being flashed already, or being newer or that the SSID does not match etc.. and it will then refuse to flash.
