It is usually not possible to recover from errors triggered during installation, you may need to create a new database or use a different database prefix if you want to retry the installation.
Solution:
This happened when I was running MySQL 5.1. Assuming your database details are right and the DB is up then make sure you are using the correct and required MySQL 5.5
After upgrading to MySQL 5.5 things were good.
